Asfaco organizes sessions on corporate responsibility in the field of sustainability

Certification, progress in equality, the boost to Compliance, and social action are key elements in the process

The Association of Manufacturing and Services Companies of Córdoba (Asfaco) and the auditing and consulting firm Audiel, in collaboration with the University of Córdoba (UCO) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Spain (Icjce), and sponsored by the Sebastián Almagro Foundation, organized the technical sessions “The New Sustainability Report: Turning Necessity into Virtue”. The aim was to show how large companies should present new reports on the social and environmental impact of their activities, as well as the challenges and standards to be followed.

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is the EU’s new legislation requiring companies with over 250 employees to publish periodic reports on their environmental, human rights, and social impact activities. It helps investors, consumers, and other stakeholders evaluate non-financial performance while promoting a more responsible approach to business.

Under this new regulation, the way companies report on their business practices will follow standardized sustainability criteria aligned with the European Green Deal, the Sustainable Finance Agenda, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

María Felisa Rodríguez, Head of Magtel’s Management Systems Department, highlighted in her speech Magtel’s progress in environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and the guidelines for economic sustainability and good governance.

She pointed out that Magtel’s evolving commitment in this area has primarily been reflected in the ISO certifications for its management systems: quality, environment, occupational health and safety, energy management, information security, and R&D management; the company’s progress in equality; the strengthening of its Compliance area through the implementation of an outsourced ethics channel; and the social action carried out through its foundation.

Rodríguez also emphasized the direct link between the company’s policy of seeking innovative and sustainable solutions and the sectors in which it operates.

Miguel Ángel Tamarit, President of Asfaco, highlighted that the organization of these sessions reflects the association’s commitment to “human rights, equal opportunities, environmental protection, and transparency in information, as well as relying on ethical and responsible practices and behaviors.”

The event was attended by Isidro López Magdaleno, Vice President of Magtel and Vice President of Asfaco; Javier Bernabéu, Vice President of Territorial Group 7 of the Institute of Chartered Accountants; José María Casado, President of the College of Economists of Córdoba; María Dolores Guerrero, Full Professor at UCO; Francisco Higuera, Sustainability Director at Pegasus Aero Group; and Maria Felisa Rodríguez, Director of Magtel’s Management Systems. The event was closed by Tamarit.

A multi-sector association

The multi-sector association Asfaco, created over 45 years ago, is one of the longest-standing business collectives in Córdoba and its province. Today, it represents a robust business community of more than 45 companies. Collectively, these companies employ over 5,500 professionals directly, with combined revenues exceeding €5 billion.
