Rail&Truck has finalised the reception of 150 T4000e wagons and seven Euro6000 locomotives (Stadler), supported by Next Generation EU funds, and now awaits the completion of infrastructure adaptation works.
Rail&Truck, the joint venture created by Eco Raíl (a subsidiary of Grupo Magtel) and Cartera M.L. (Marcotran), has completed the delivery of its fleet of 150 T4000e wagons, destined for the Algeciras–Zaragoza rail motorway service, which is scheduled to enter operation in 2027. This milestone follows the earlier arrival of the seven Euro6000 locomotives manufactured by Stadler, meaning that all the rolling stock required to begin the service is now available once the infrastructure works are completed.
The acquisition of the wagons has been supported by Next Generation EU funding, within the framework of transport decarbonisation and the promotion of modal shift from road to rail—both key to advancing towards more sustainable and competitive mobility.
The T4000e are intermodal platforms specifically designed for the transport of semi‑trailers. Each unit can carry two semi‑trailers, enabling each train (15 wagons) to transport up to 30 units per journey.
This configuration enhances operational efficiency, reduces transit times, and strengthens the competitiveness of rail transport along a strategic logistics corridor for the Iberian Peninsula.
With both locomotives and wagons now delivered, Rail&Truck reaches a key milestone in preparing for service. The company now awaits the completion of infrastructure works in order to commence operations within the planned timeframe.
The launch of the Algeciras–Zaragoza rail motorway will enable a significant share of freight flows currently handled by road to shift to rail, resulting in lower environmental impact, reduced emissions, and a more robust and predictable logistics system for industrial and export sectors.
