The Grandas de Salime reversible pumped storage plant is a large-scale energy storage infrastructure based on reversible hydropower technology, enabling energy to be stored and generated through pumping and turbining processes. With an installed capacity of 247 MW and an energy storage capacity of 3,783 MWh, the facility contributes to the stability of the electricity system by providing synchronous inertia and grid balancing services.
Designed to support the integration of renewable energy sources, the plant also delivers critical grid services such as black start capability and network support, helping to ensure a more flexible, secure and resilient energy system.
