Magtel takes part in the presentation of ASEALEN’s ‘2025 Vision for Energy Storage’

The Spanish Energy Storage Association (ASEALEN) presented its new strategic document, “2025 Vision for Energy Storage,” last Thursday, July 17, in Madrid, during an event that brought together more than one hundred industry professionals, representatives from MITECO, and in which our Director of Hydraulics and Environment, Arturo Buenaventura, took part.

The new roadmap will guide ASEALEN’s work over the next two years, with the aim of consolidating energy storage as a fundamental pillar of a clean, resilient, and efficient energy system.

Throughout the event, key issues were addressed, such as the impact of Royal Decree-Law 7/2025, the signals required to trigger new investments, the structural role of storage in the energy transition, and the urgent need to complete the regulatory framework that will enable the sector’s sustained and sustainable growth.

In his opening remarks, Arturo Buenaventura, Vice President of ASEALEN, emphasized the need for a dedicated regulatory framework tailored to storage, with specific rules for access and connection, differentiated capacity mechanisms, and a tax treatment aligned with its strategic role. He also highlighted the importance of promoting a systemic vision that integrates technologies such as hydraulic, thermal, and electrochemical storage, while encouraging their participation in renewable auctions and demand aggregation schemes.

The 2025 Vision identifies twelve key priorities to facilitate the development of storage in Spain. Among them are regulatory recognition as a distinct vector, integration into auctions and capacity markets, accelerated deployment in island systems and just transition areas, the promotion of zero-emission industrial heat, and its role in strengthening the country’s energy and water security.
