Our Director of Hydraulics and Environment, Arturo Buenaventura, participates in the 10th edition of the Electric Energy Campus of Castilla y León

On July 2, our Director of Hydraulics and Environment, Arturo Buenaventura, took part in the 10th edition of the Electric Energy Campus of Castilla y León. These sessions are primarily aimed at university and vocational training students, offering specialized education on the energy transition and the functioning of the electrical system.

This edition brought together professionals from universities, Red Eléctrica, industry experts, and companies, including Arturo Buenaventura, who delivered a presentation on “New Players in the Electricity Market: Reversible Hydropower Plants.”

In his talk, Arturo emphasized the need to accelerate regulations for reversible pumping to strengthen the electrical system. He highlighted the importance of this infrastructure, as it allows renewable energy to be shifted from periods of surplus to times of peak demand, while also providing stability through synchronous inertia.

He also stressed the urgent need for regulation that facilitates and speeds up project development: “It is essential to coordinate procedures such as the granting of hydraulic public domain rights, Environmental Impact Assessments, or capacity tenders. Additionally, clear support from the Administration is needed to advance approvals, guarantee grid access, and ensure the economic viability of installations.”

The main goal of the campus was to explore the keys to a sustainable energy model through theoretical sessions combined with fieldwork, including technical visits to energy-related facilities across Castilla y León. Students had the opportunity to observe field operations firsthand, connect theoretical knowledge to practical applications, and learn directly from professionals working and researching in this sector.
