The company, together with BIOCAM in Seville, hosted the kick-off meeting of this initiative, co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme and developed in collaboration with 10 international partners.
Over the next 42 months, the consortium will work on the development of innovative solutions to valorise agricultural biomass and advance towards a more sustainable circular economy model for the agri-food sector.
Magtel’s R&D&I Division welcomed the CARBON-4-LIFE partners to Seville for the project’s kick-off meeting, organised jointly with BIOCAM, a company specialising in waste management and recovery. The project brings together 11 organisations from Spain, France, Denmark and Greece. The meeting provided an opportunity to align on the project’s objectives, coordinate the first activities and establish the roadmap for the next 42 months.
Co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, CARBON-4-LIFE aims to demonstrate new ways of recovering and utilising woody agricultural residues, particularly olive tree pruning waste, transforming them into high-value products for the energy and agricultural sectors.
During the working sessions held at the facilities of Magtel and BIOCAM in Seville, consortium members addressed the technical, scientific and management aspects that will guide the project’s implementation. They also established the foundations for collaboration among partners in order to move towards a circular economy model based on the sustainable valorisation of biomass.
The initiative will integrate innovative technologies to produce renewable biogas, biochar for improving agricultural soils and sustainable peat substitutes, contributing to emissions reduction, improved agricultural waste management and the decarbonisation of the sector.
The consortium is coordinated by Magtel and includes TerraWatt SAS (France) and BIOCAM (Spain) as key partners for the industrial demonstration of the solution. Scientific and technical support is provided by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the Soil & Water Resources Institute of ELGO-DIMITRA (Greece). The project also brings together Inveniam Group, WtEnergy Advanced Solutions, VELTIS, Rainbow Standard, Fundación Andanatura and GRDF, forming a multidisciplinary consortium that combines expertise in bioenergy, waste valorisation, sustainable soil management, carbon removal, environmental certification and knowledge transfer.
