The initiative, funded by CDTI and CTA, has completed its design phase and begun the first technological developments for the creation of an advanced platform for the simulation, monitoring and protection of critical infrastructures.
Magtel continues to make progress in the development of CONTINUUM-DT, an R&D project launched in January 2026 with the goal of designing a cybersecure digital twin based on a Cloud Continuum (Edge-Fog-Cloud) architecture for critical infrastructures in the industrial and defence sectors. Following the first six months of execution, the initiative has reached one of its key milestones with the completion of the design phase and the start of the initial implementation activities.
The project, funded by the Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI) through the PID Dual programme and by the Andalusian Technology Corporation (CTA), will run until December 2027. It involves the participation of Magtel Operaciones and the collaboration of AICIA.
CONTINUUM-DT aims to develop a platform capable of creating advanced virtual representations of critical infrastructures, enabling real-time simulation, monitoring and analysis. This technology will support decision-making, operational optimisation and enhanced security in facilities where service continuity and protection against threats are strategic priorities.
To achieve this, the project combines distributed computing capabilities, integration of data from IoT and SCADA systems, advanced cybersecurity techniques and digital twin models adaptable to different application environments. All of this is supported by a Cloud Continuum architecture that distributes processing across edge devices, intermediate nodes and cloud platforms, optimising resource usage and responsiveness.
The project roadmap is organised into five major work areas: technology surveillance, architecture definition, digital twin development, cybersecurity and validation.

These results are fully aligned with the roadmap established for the first half of the project and open the way to a new phase focused on the technological development of the designed capabilities.
Having completed the conceptual design stage, CONTINUUM-DT is now entering the implementation phase for the architecture, digital twin models and cybersecurity mechanisms previously defined. Work will continue throughout 2026 and much of 2027 before moving on to the final experimental validation stage.
The project will conclude with a pilot deployment in a relevant military environment, where the solution’s performance will be assessed under conditions close to real-world operations.
