On Tuesday, April 22, the 2nd Energy Storage Forum organized by El Periódico de la Energía took place at EY’s headquarters in Madrid, attended by Magtel’s Director of Hydraulics and Environment, Arturo Buenaventura.
Energy storage is emerging as a key factor for the decarbonization and competitiveness of Spanish industry. This was highlighted during the forum, where experts and companies agreed that these solutions are set to play a leading role in the new energy model.
Representing Magtel, Arturo Buenaventura participated in the round table “Other Uses of Energy Storage: The Industrial Consumer”, alongside companies such as Bamboo Energy, Build to Zero, EY, and Sonnen. The discussion focused on energy storage solutions—including batteries, thermal storage systems, and compressed air—that can be applied by industrial consumers beyond traditional uses.
During his intervention, Buenaventura emphasized the importance of storage as a key tool for the energy transition toward a renewable-based system. He highlighted that pumped-storage hydro allows large amounts of renewable energy to be shifted from surplus hours to periods of higher demand, while also providing system stability thanks to its synchronous inertia. He added: “A clear push from the Administration is necessary so that projects can advance in permitting, secure access and connection points, and obtain the economic incentives required for their viability.”
The forum also featured two additional round tables addressing topics such as “Batteries and the Challenge of Grid Connection” and “Energy Storage in the New Capacity Market”. Leading companies in the sector participated with the goal of promoting energy storage in Spain, a sector that is currently experiencing strong growth in the country.
As an entity committed to promoting the efficient use of energy in large industrial processes and developing innovative storage solutions, Magtel attended the forum to advocate for and highlight the strategic role of energy storage in the energy transition.
