Eco Raíl, a company within the Magtel Group, continues to consolidate its position as a strategic player in the development of railway solutions aimed at more sustainable and efficient mobility, aligned with transport decarbonisation objectives. Its activity focuses on both freight and passenger transport, promoting innovative operational models that strengthen the competitiveness of rail compared to other modes of transport.
Rail has become a key element in advancing towards a more sustainable mobility system, capable of reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency and easing congestion on road infrastructure. In this context, Eco Raíl operates with a long-term vision, integrating technology, operational efficiency and sustainability as the core pillars of its strategy.
Freight transport: driving intermodality and major logistics corridors
One of the main pillars of Eco Raíl’s activity is rail freight transport, with a particular focus on the development of rail motorways that facilitate the modal shift from road to rail. In this area, Eco Raíl holds a majority stake in Rail & Truck Strait Union, the company promoting the future Algeciras–Zaragoza rail motorway—a strategic corridor designed to connect the main port in the western Mediterranean with the logistics hub of the Ebro Valley.
This project will enable the transport of full semi-trailers by rail, improving supply chain efficiency, reducing emissions and relieving congestion on major road routes. In 2025, significant milestones were reached, including the incorporation of seven Euro6000 locomotives and 150 T4000e wagons, rolling stock specifically designed for intermodal transport without the need for cranes.
Eco Raíl has also made progress in the regulatory procedures required to operate as a railway undertaking, including applying for a Railway Undertaking Licence and preparing documentation for the Safety Certificate—key steps towards the start of commercial operations.
Rail logistics for the mining and industrial sectors
Within freight transport, Eco Raíl is also developing specific projects linked to strategic sectors such as mining. Notably, it is studying the implementation of a regular rail service between the La Zarza mine and the Port of Huelva, with the capacity to transport around three million tonnes of mineral annually.
This rail corridor would optimise logistics for the extractive sector, significantly reduce heavy road traffic and improve the competitiveness of mineral resources for export. The project is based on the use of existing railway infrastructure, complemented by new sidings and light maintenance solutions for rolling stock.
Passenger transport: new opportunities in a liberalised market
In parallel, Eco Raíl is advancing its strategy in passenger rail transport within the context of Spain’s liberalised market. During 2025, the company analysed opportunities arising from the second phase of high-speed rail liberalisation, which opens up new corridors with strong demand potential, including Galicia, Asturias, Cádiz and Huelva.
Activities in this area include market studies, demand analysis, rolling stock assessment and operational planning, with the aim of developing a modern, efficient and competitive service offering based on sustainability, digitalisation and high-quality customer experience.
Technology, efficiency and sustainability as hallmarks
Eco Raíl’s operations are supported by the integration of advanced technologies for management, monitoring and energy optimisation, aimed at reducing consumption, anticipating incidents and improving operational reliability. This approach enables progress towards a more efficient railway model aligned with climate and sustainable mobility goals.
As part of the Magtel Group, Eco Raíl benefits from the group’s expertise in engineering, energy, infrastructure and digitalisation, strengthening its ability to deliver complex projects with significant territorial impact.
A key player in the future of rail mobility
With its activities focused on Spain and a clear ambition for growth, Eco Raíl is positioning itself as a key player in the transformation of rail transport, promoting solutions that foster intermodality, reduce emissions and enhance the competitiveness of rail for both freight and passenger services.
In this way, Eco Raíl contributes directly to a more sustainable and efficient mobility model, ready to meet present and future transport and logistics challenges.
