Mining
Committed to Our Land
We are the only company with 100% Andalusian capital dedicated to the metallic mining sector in the Iberian Pyrite Belt.
We hold the mining rights for the Tharsis mines in the municipality of Alosno, the San Telmo mine in Cortegana, and the La Zarza mine, located in the municipality of the same name. Our offices are located in Tharsis, in the century-old building where the Tharsis Sulphur and Copper Company was once headquartered.
Currently, Tharsis Mining focuses its activity on researching the old deposits with the aim of restoring the historic mining activity in this area of the Andévalo region, thereby reactivating the local economy of these communities.
Tharsis project
Seven deposits make up this legendary mining site in Huelva, which still holds enormous mining potential. Its stockwork represents an additional resource opportunity for metals such as gold, cobalt, and copper.
The Tharsis district has been known since ancient times for its wealth of various metallic resources, which have been exploited since pre-Roman times through both open-pit and underground mining across different deposits. Historically, the most exploited resources include copper, silver, gold, and raw pyrite, which was sold for sulfuric acid production.
The most significant and recent operations were Filón Sur (silver and gold) and Filón Norte (raw pyrite), both mined through open-pit methods, with activity ceasing toward the end of the 20th century.
La Zarza project
La Zarza deposit was exploited through both open-pit and underground mining for the extraction of raw pyrite, which was transported by rail to the port of Corrales in Huelva, where it was shipped to various sulfuric acid production centers.
Mining operations began in the mid-19th century and ceased in 1991, with over 38 million tonnes of pyrite extracted. Since then, several studies have focused on investigating a type of mineral known as “silicated,” which, unlike the “massive” ore, was not previously exploited. These studies also explored the potential reopening of mining activities aimed at extracting metals such as gold and copper.
Among the most significant efforts were those carried out by Ormonde España between 2004 and 2012. Through drilling campaigns, they defined mineral resources exceeding 11 million tonnes under the JORC classification, with promising copper and gold content, particularly in the silicated ore. Their work also opened the door to expanding resources in the massive ore, which showed relevant concentrations of zinc and copper.

Magtel will carry out the works of the second phase of the Bujalance supply market.
