Magtel has completed its involvement in the European project OMEGA-X, which aimed to create a multivector, sovereign, and interoperable energy data space, aligned with the principles of Gaia-X and European open standards. The project, led by Atos IT Solutions and Services Iberia, brought together various research organisations and energy sector companies, with co-financing from the European Union and a total budget exceeding €10 million.
Within the consortium, Magtel contributed to the renewable energy use case, leveraging its expertise in the operation and maintenance of large photovoltaic plants. Specifically, the company was responsible for developing software to capture, semantise, and transmit operational data from its La Castilleja photovoltaic plant (Córdoba) to the federated data space. Additionally, Magtel developed the necessary mechanisms to receive, store, and visualise the results generated by prediction and analysis algorithms executed within the project framework. This functionality enabled the completion of the data exchange cycle, retrieving information processed by predictive maintenance and comparative analysis services, such as the detection of potential faults or performance deviations in the plant. In doing so, Magtel was able to validate the effectiveness of the algorithms and their applicability in real photovoltaic operation environments.
The project has enhanced predictive maintenance algorithms for photovoltaic plants through the use of shared data among different stakeholders, always ensuring the privacy, security, and sovereignty of the information. Thanks to this approach, operation and maintenance (O&M) practices have been optimised, enabling early fault detection, automated diagnostics, and the prescription of corrective actions, with a consequent impact on the efficiency and reliability of the facilities.
Among the most notable outcomes of the pilot led by Magtel are the reduction of maintenance costs, improved energy performance, and progress in data interoperability within the photovoltaic sector. Furthermore, the integration of analysis services developed by Tecnalia and SENER has been validated, allowing the comparison of predictive maintenance and comparative analysis results under real operating conditions.
With the conclusion of the project, OMEGA-X lays the groundwork for a European energy data infrastructure that fosters innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness in the sector, promoting new business models based on the data economy.
