On 2 December, Magtel took part in the 2nd Galicia Business Forum, held at the Parador de Santiago de Compostela. This event, organised by elEconomista<\/em>, brought together leaders from the energy and industrial sectors to discuss the role of energy in Galicia\u2019s reindustrialisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, key issues were addressed, such as the region\u2019s energy situation, ongoing investments, the need for strategic infrastructure, and the impact of critical minerals on economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arturo Buenaventura, Director of Magtel\u2019s Hydraulics and Environment Division, participated in the panel discussion entitled \u201cAn Opportunity for Industrialisation\u201d<\/em>, alongside Alberto Fuentes, Vice President of Operations for Spain, Norway and Latam at Ferroglobe; Francisco Arechaga, Director and Advisor at ElectroRayma; and Abel M\u00e9ndez, Business Development Director at Navantia Seanergies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion focused on the need to boost renewable energy for industrial growth, investment opportunities, and the keys to improving Galicia\u2019s competitiveness. In this context, Arturo Buenaventura highlighted the importance of the BlueStorage<\/strong> project, developed by Magtel\u2019s Hydraulics and Environment Division. This initiative is based on a distributed storage system using reversible hydropower plants, essential for moving towards a decarbonised electricity system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BlueStorage<\/strong> will enable large amounts of renewable energy to be shifted from low-demand hours to peak consumption periods, ensuring system stability and promoting renewable integration. The project includes more than 24 reversible hydropower plants across the Iberian Peninsula, with an installed capacity exceeding 5,000 MW and a storage capacity of over 57 GWh, making it a key component in meeting the objectives of Spain\u2019s Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, during the forum, it was emphasised that although the progress of renewables presents a great opportunity for Galicia, there is a risk if it is not accompanied by more agile regulation for energy storage. The industry calls for a regulatory framework that accelerates the deployment of new technologies due to the saturation of the electricity system. This context reinforces the strategic importance of storage, not only to stabilise the grid but also to reduce the cost of renewable energy\u2014an essential condition for Galicia\u2019s reindustrialisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
