We begin 2023 with Artificial Intelligence -AI- at the forefront of technological developments, and we have the chatbot ChatGPT as an example. What is your opinion on this matter?
It is true that natural language models like GPT-3, which is the core of the ChatGPT chatbot, are currently very popular. They have applications even in image generation, such as DALL-E, both developed by OpenAI. I believe that artificial intelligence, in general, is currently the technology with the most projection and the highest degree of applicability in process automation across various economic sectors. After all, AI is nothing more than the application of human-like behavioral traits to machines, allowing it to be present in any business process. Furthermore, I am convinced that the triad of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and blockchain will shape technological development in the coming decades.
When it comes to automation, at what level are we currently?
Well, when it comes to automation, we can find two main levels. First, there are the so-called front-office processes that involve interactions with different stakeholders such as customers, employees, suppliers, or partner companies. Second, there are the back-office processes related to production and operations.
For front-office processes, there are general-purpose technologies available for digitizing and automating customer relationship management (CRM). These technologies are often integrated into multi-channel experience platforms. For example, incorporating advanced cognitive AI services can easily transform a conventional chatbot into a voicebot.
In the case of back-office processes, although mature technologies exist, the reality is that digitalization and automation of operations require customized solutions for each company and industry sector. Let me give you an example related to irrigation automation. We are now capable of determining the ideal timing for irrigation in each plot by analyzing factors such as current moisture levels, crop phenological conditions (using artificial vision analysis of satellite images), and upcoming weather forecasts. To address such challenges, a combination and integration of multiple technologies is often employed.
In summary, automation involves leveraging technology to streamline both front-office and back-office processes, with specialized solutions tailored to specific needs and sectors.
In this regard, is there any notable project to mention?
Recently, we have completed a very interesting project for multi-channel citizen support in terms of e-administration for the City Council of Córdoba. Currently, we are working on automating various citizen support services for the Andalusian Regional Government through their multi-channel support platform. Additionally, I would like to highlight that we will soon begin a project in Andalusia that involves providing technological equipment, including advanced solutions in robotics, telemedicine, and remote assistance for citizens in their interactions with financial entities.
In the context of Andalusia, how do you assess the technological efforts, both in the public and private sectors?
I believe that the effort being made to position Andalusia as a technological reference is immense, both by the Andalusian public administrations and the private sector. The Andalusian Regional Government, through the Digital Agency of Andalusia (Sandetel) and the Fernando de los Ríos Consortium, is accelerating the digital transformation process of the administration and our society with impactful projects such as Puntos Vuela and WIFI Corporativo, among many others. Additionally, several multinational companies are establishing significant technology development centers in our region. At Magtel, we are also contributing in areas such as multi-channel customer experience, voicebots, smart irrigation, private 5G networks, and critical mission digital twins and IoT systems.
What can the logistics base in Córdoba contribute to us from a technological perspective?
Certainly, this project is a great opportunity to showcase all the technologies we mentioned earlier, focusing on predictive logistics and intelligent management of the base. In fact, at Magtel, we have a vision of what we call SMB (Smart Military Base), which is a digital twin of the base that encompasses all mission-oriented systems and processes related to base operations.
